Dear All.

Singapore has been recognized for her achievements in terms of Academia as compared to our neighbouring countries. Sheets of papers known as 'certificates' are issued year in and out to 'certify' people of a certain level of education. However are we really educated people or 'educated' people? The rationale behind education is so that we could lead a better life in the future. To many, a synonym for 'better life' can also be known as 'happier life'. However , a few months ago, a survey had been conducted and statistics had proven that Singaporeans are one of the unhappiest people of the world. Countries which led simple life such as The Phillipines had proven to be much happier than us. Does that mean that we are less educated than the people from The Phillipines? A definite No. To ensure a happier tomorrow, now, lets have a close up study of our Education System.

Primary School juveniles are required to take at least 4 subjects & 5 for a minority. When they progress on to Secondary Education the number of subjects doubles, from a 4-5 to a 8-11. It is simply putting a tremendous amount of pressure on these students. 7 days per week & there are 8-11 subjects to handle. How is it possible for an adolescent to condone information of 8-11 subjects altogether. Even if only 4 subjects are based purely on memorizing, it is practically impossible for a child to memorize and fully understand the contents of each and every of the 4 subjects. If i were to throw some Geography Questions at my principal now, would she be able to answer every one of them accurately? No. Whats the point of learning so much and forgetting practically all of them except for one subject. I believe if there is a reduction in the amount of subjects that we take, we'll be able to excel in most of them and we'll definitely understand better as more time now are spent on fewer subjects. For a child to really learn, it requires fully understanding, memorizing is only short term. I find it rather amusing that the school wants us to memorize , go for exams and score As and claims that we are 'educate' people while on the other hand, if u go for exams and score Bs & Cs, you'll be categorized under 'uneducated' . Schools are no longer any different from robots producing factories where they produce batch after batch of 'educated people'. My point is, are schools really educating us or are we blindly memorizing?

Anyway, when we get into the University., we are only to major in ONE subject. What for learn so much during secondary school & forget most of which after a few years. If you were an employer of a logistics company and you were to choose between 2 employees, one who does average for all his subjects or one who excels in maths and does slightly below average. We'll definitely choose the latter, he may not be good in other areas but when it comes to maths, he is able to help calculate our amount of goods, cost prices, profit etc. Also , knowing his strength it is much easier to delegate jobs to him, instead of the former employee where you have no idea of where to put him.I believe in life, as long as we speialize at one area, its good enough to lead a happy life. Back to my point again, why not allow us to make our choices early to choose subects that we want to take instead of taking all of them and forgetting what we 'learn' later on.
Point : In life, we only have to excel in one area, why cant we choose the area we want to excel in at a younger age than to study so much and put on stress to yourself?

In Singapore, the ability to socialise is takeen too lightly. Kids usually start education at 4 where they attend Nursery. 1-3 years of a child's life is taken to adapt to the country, climate etc.. At 4, kids starts receiving education and books invaded into the little world of their own. Once when children thought that ants were the smallest thing one earth were then rectified to atoms being the smallest particle on earth. Books, books and more books, killed creativity. 'Stress' was introduced at an early age , when they grow up, memories of their childhood are none other than books. Our product: mundane, boring & stressed kids. On the contrary, in America, kids only start studying at the age of 7-8 years. The first 7-8 years of their life was spent interacting, socialising, playing, fooling around. Their Product: charasmatic,fun-loving,creative kids and at the very least they have a memorable childhood. Having a memorable childhood is definitely vital to everyone. May i ask if anyone of you has had a fantabulous childhood? Even when these kids enter adulthood, they are very different. In america, statistics show that out of every 10 household, 6 of which organises social events every once in awhile, they have alot of fun, yet they are very serious at work. On the other hand, In singapore out of every 10 household only 1-2 households organises such events for interaction. Their path of life is very different from one another.
Point : No emphasis on socializing, singaporean becomes very boring people. No Childhood.

Much unlike in Singapore, where everyone follows a standard path. From the Nursery to Kindergarten then to Primary School then Secondary School followed by Junior Colleges, Polytechnics or ITEs , University then on to work for at least 30 years.. After retirement, we get our CPF, 'enjoy' life for arnd 10 more years and off we go to the deathbed. Thou it may not be prominent, we seem to be a 'Uniformed Country'
Point: Since when are we so Uniformed!

To sum up, i believe immediate actions should be taken to address these flaws of our education system, hopefully, soon enough there would be a long term plan for a happier nation, brighter country and a better Singapore!

Thank You.

Ming Jun

ps ( sorry for the late work Mr Tan. I actually finished this quite a while ago but due to unforseen circumstances where i finish typing and the moment i attempt to copy my speech, it magically disappeared. I AM NOT KIDDING. thank you)

Qualities a Leader should possess and how should they deal with people. The reason for bringing up this issue is due to the fact that there are numerous leaders in our class ranging from Co-Curricular activities(CCA), class leaders to student councillors.

A good leader should be tought but tender, strong but sensitive at the right time.Being firm or soft at the right time plays a key role in being a good leader. They should be emotionally secure, and should be able to handle any confrontations. When it comes to dealing with people, a right approach is essential.Weak or poor leadership is resulted when if the wrong approach is used.

It is of during times of conflict when a true leader is put to the test. Those who can remain calm, poised and ready to tackle the problem are the true leaders. Those who have a lousy attitude and influence is always negative is not a good leader.Consider the tough decisions us students are facing nowadays. Are we studying because we want to, or are we studying just to please our parents? These questions may seem easy but are certainly very difficult to answer. The fact is that us students are studying due to pressure given to us by the society as it will be very competitive for us to get a jobs in a future without a good education.Students not only have to balance their time on studies, but on their CCAs as well. They may be potential great leaders but are being dragged down as some may be academically inclined.

Lastly to end the speech, a leader should always be open to ideas given to them and accept criticism as a learning experience to change for the better.

Thank you.

Schools should be more transparent and conscience in their handling of school funds. I believed students and their parents should have a thorough acknowledgement of what their fees goes to and the exact distribution of it.

School funds are essential for the development of the school in facilities and miscellaneous for the students. A fund has to be setup to ensure a regular cash flow within the school itself so as to ensure that financial problems are not present in a studying compound which could disrupt the reputation of the school through media exposure to its problem and most importantly the mood of the students. These ‘minor’ problems should not be present to affect students in their studies.

However, funds for the school had slowly developed into a form of organization, a source to further expansion of either the school or other affiliated organizations. Funds are also used for positive investments and the entire idea of having school funds change from simply paying the teachers and principle their wages to building a stronger bond with other organization and at the same time to ensure the financial stability of the school. Yes, I do believe that with more funds, a school could have more freedom in their expansion in facilities and school compound.

This will lead to a good reputation of the school and also allows students to be studying in a conducive environment.

This is therefore advantageous to both parties; students and parents and also the school.

Since school funds nowadays have transformed into a form of investment, parents and students as investors should have the right to know where their money goes to. For example, funds are pumped into the building fund of a new school facility? Into printing fees for students? Into water and electrical bills? Into the planting of trees in school compounds to promote greenery and beauty in the school? These are some things the school requires to help assist students to excel mentally and physically. But very importantly, they neglected the consent from the ‘investors’, which led to much confusion and displease towards the use of funds.

I would recommend letters to be distributed – letters of details of a new project for school expansion and welfare for the students, to gain consent and understanding from the parents before they come to a final decision. This would allow parents to feel more valued as they took part in a decision for their child’s future which would be molded by the school.

Though usage of funds for investments is essential, there must be a limit. We definitely do not wish to see any misuse in the funds, which could be illegal. Lastly, my belief, ‘Simplicity makes perfect,’ should be made applicable to the management of school. Remember, a school is a place for studies.

Discipline Masters should not be allowed to cut students' hair and students should have their own hair style.

Discipline Masters are the ones who try to keep discipline in a school. Throughout the decades, discipline masters have become more strict as more and more students become rebellious and undisciplined. However, recently, i find that discipline masters have been abusing their authority. One of the unacceptable acts is sniping off students' hair without permission. i feel that this cannot be tolerated as many of the students have only slightly longer hair, inappropriate to the school strict standard in attire wise. Slope, not touching of collars and eyebrows and ears, had always been the 'trend' in the eyes of the discipline masters. Students with hair of any longer will be cut or given demerit points. Even so, the discipline masters cut the students' hair in an ugly way, sending a warning to the student to get a haircut, but unknowingly giving the student an unkempted look. These students might be too distracted by the fact that they look even more untidy, and are unable to focus and concentrate on their studies. "Having a short and neat haircut is crucial for a better learning", quoted from typical discipline masters. I disagree with this fact as i feel that having an comfortable haircut for the student is more crucial for learning. However, the students should know the limit and not letting his hair grow to an unacceptable length. Students, for example; Anglican High, should have an understanding of how important studying is, and will not mind too much about his hair as long as it looks presentable and feels comfortable. Besides, with so much rules and standards to keep, it would be even difficult for a student to keep up and focus on his studies.

Nowadays, students are more meticulous about their appearance and with the 'slope' rule, students are bound to be displeased. Hence, discipline masters should spare a thought for the students and should not interfere with the students' hair unless it grows too long. This will not only please the students but also make them focus and achieve greater results and bring glory to the school.

what makes this guy famous?
He is muscular, handsome, attractive to both genders, sexy, intelligent, skillful and a master in chinese martial arts.He is agile, and moves like lightning, and shouts like thunder.

Lee is best remembered for the presentation of Chinese Martial Arts to the non-Chinese world. His films, especially the Hollywood produced Enter the Dragon, elevated the traditional Hong Kong Martial Arts film to a new level of popularity and acclaim, and sparked the first major surge of interest in Chinese martial arts in the West. The direction and tone of his films changed and influenced martial arts and martial arts films in Hong Kong,China, and the rest of the world. Lee became an iconic figure particularly to Chinese, as he portrayed Chinese national pride and Chinese Nationalism in his movies. Many see Lee as a model blueprint for acquiring a strong and efficient body, as well as developing a mastery of martial arts and Hand to hand combat skills.

Also, his background is cool. Now lets talk about it.

He was born at the Chinese Hospital in San Francisco, California, United States of America to a Chinese theatrical family just visiting the country.

QNS 2.
Which one particular thing did they do that shot them to fame?
In the 1960s Lee attempted to start his acting career in America. He became famous for playing Kato alongside Van Williams in the TV series. He also played Kato in three episodes of the series Batman which was also produced by the same people of The Green Hornet. This was followed by guest appearances in television series such as Ironside (1967) and Here Come the Brides (1969). In 1969 he made his first major film appearance in Marlowe where he played a henchman hired to intimidate private detective Philip Marlowe (played by James Garner) by smashing up his office with karate chops and kicks. His masculine also made him prominent in the acting industry.
Young Bruce learned the fundamentals of Wu style Tai Chi Chuan from his father, Lee Hoi Cheun.Lee's Wing Chun sifu, Yip Man, was also a colleague and friend of Hong Kong Wu family teacher Wu Ta-ch'. He always held that the principles of Tai Chi Chuan influenced his view of martial arts all through his life as an actor and a martial artist. While it is obvious that the style studied by his father was the Wu style, Lee was seen on at least one occasion demonstrating the 108 Basic Movements of the Yang form. Lee started training in Wing Chun at the age of 14 under Hong Kong Wing Chun master Yip Man. Lee was introduced to Yip Man in early 1954 by William Cheung, then a live-in student of Yip Man. Like most martial arts schools at that time, Sifu Yip Man's classes were often taught by the highest ranking students. One of the highest ranking students under Yip Man at the time of Lee's training was Wong Shun-leung, who is understood to have had the largest influence. Yip Man trained Lee privately after some students refused to train with Lee due to his ancestor. Lee would leave before learning the entire Wing Chun curriculum, but Wing Chun formed a base for his later explorations of martial arts.
In between the learning of Tai Chi and Wing Chun, Lee also learned bits and pieces of the Hung Gar style from a friend of his father. There are photographs and videos of Bruce demonstrating animal stances and forms found within its teachings.
Lee was also trained with weapons by the renowned Martial artist Fumio Demura, the head of the Shito Ryu martial arts style

QNS 3.
what makes this person considered crazy?
His amazing fitness and ability to perform highly conplicated stunts makes him crazy.

Bruce Lee felt that many martial artists of his day did not spend enough time on physical conditioning. Bruce included all elements of total fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardiovascular endurance, and flexibility. He tried traditional bodybuilding techniques to build bulky muscles or mass. In his book The Tao of Jeet Kune Do, he wrote "Training is one of the most neglected phases of athletics. Too much time is given to the development of skill and too little to the development of the individual for participation." "JKD, ultimately is not a matter of petty techniques but of highly developed spirituality and physique".The weight training program that Lee used during a stay in Hong Kong in 1965 at only 24 years old placed heavy emphasis on his arms. At that time he could perform bicep curls at a weight of 70 to 80 lbs for three sets of eight repetitions, along with other forms of exercises, such as squats, push-ups, reverse curls, concentration curls, French presses, and both wrist curls and reverse wrist curls. The repetitions he performed were 6 to 12 reps (at the time). While this method of training targeted his fast and slow twitch muscles, it later resulted in weight gain or muscle mass, placing Bruce a little over 165 lbs. Bruce Lee was documented as having well over 2,500 books in his own personal library, and eventually concluded that "A stronger muscle, is a bigger muscle". However, Bruce forever experimented with his training routines to maximize his physical abilities. He employed many different routines and exercises, which effectively served his training and bodybuilding purposes.
Lee believed that the abdominal muscles were one of the most important muscle groups for a martial artist, since virtually every movement requires some degree of abdominal work. Perhaps more importantly, the "abs" are like a shell, protecting the ribs and vital organs.
He trained from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m., including stomach, flexibility, and running, and from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. he would weight train and cycle. A typical exercise for Lee would be to run a distance of two to six miles in 15 to 45 minutes, in which he would vary speed in 3-5 minute intervals. Lee would then ride his stationary bicycle for 30-45 minutes at full speed immediately after running. Next, Lee would do some skipping rope for 800 jumps non-stop.

QNS 4.
Do you think this person is really a genius? Why?

Bruce Lee is truly a genious as he managed to achieve fame through his muscles and looks.

its just like relationship aha, u may like this person for dam long, but why u stop liking, becoz u like til ure sick of the relationship already ahah, it applies for many things.

Humans are never contented manz ahha

anyway lets not talk abt the past already

lately i'd been listening to this song
titled ' I wanna **** you by akon '
yes its tone, very catchy, aahah, nevermind the lyrics, its not that important anyway
as long as the music sounds good, its good music.

you might be wondering.. adults?? what type of genre of music do they listen to?
from my perspective, i think it'll be jazz.
why jazz?
Jazz , when u listen to it during free time, sit down with a cup of drink by ur side
it relaxes ur mind and you'll feel that ur stress from everyday work are lifted off.
You'll then think of the beauty of nature , human, earth ,the Earth.

"If Jazz is the tune of love, dont make love guilty. For Jazz has no wrong. If Jazz is about joy, dont make Jazz sad.For it should never be so"- Wintersky

tui hou(退后) and ju hua tai (菊花台)
this are the lyrics for juhuatai

lol tats it

now for tui hou

Daft Punk-Digital Love
http://ananta.imeem.com/music/SgJUtvvr/digital_love/
Last night I had a dream about you
In this dream I'm dancing right beside you
And it looked like everyone was having fun
the kind of feeling I've waited so long

Don't stop come a little closer
As we jam the rythm gets stronger
There's nothing wrong with just a little little fun
We were dancing all night long

The time is right to put my arms around you
You're feeling right
You wrap your arms around too
But suddenly I feel the shining sun
Before I knew it this dream was all gone

Ooh I don't know what to do
About this dream and you
I wish this dream comes true

Ooh I don't know what to do
About this dream and you
We'll make this dream come true

Why don't you play the game ?
Why don't you play the game ?

Celine Dion-My Heart Will Go On
http://foreverandever.imeem.com/music/ImrBYd9w/my_heart_will_go_on/
Every night in my dreams
I see you, I feel you
That is how I know you go on
Far across the distance and spaces between us
You have come to show you go on

Near far wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

Love can touch us one time and last for a lifetime
And never let go till we're gone
Love was when I loved you
One true time I hold you
In my life we'll always go on

Near far wherever you are
I believe that the heart does go on
Once more you open the door
And you're here in my heart
And my heart will go on and on

You're here, there's nothing I fear
And I know that my heart will go on
We'll stay forever this way
